Amyris, often called West Indian Sandalwood, is obtained from Amyris balsamifera. It is not a true botanical sandalwood, but its soft, balsamic woody scent explains its use as an accessible base-note alternative.

Its aroma recalls dry wood, gentle resin and a slightly vanilla-like warmth. It adds lasting power to blends and softens spicy, floral and citrus accords.

It pairs with sweet orange, lavender, patchouli, cedarwood, vetiver, frankincense, ylang-ylang and benzoin. It is very useful for simple, warm and enveloping woody bases.
